Support from Our Institute for Women's Participation in Local Decisions: Contribution to LDA Edremit's Training Project
The training program, which constituted the first step of the project titled "Empowering Women's Decision-Making Power and Participation in Local Governments," financed by the French Embassy and executed by LDA Edremit (The Local Democracy Agency of Edremit), was held in Edremit from May 26-28, 2025, hosted by the Edremit Municipality.
The three-day training program, which aimed to encourage women to take on a more active and effective role in shaping local policies, featured contributions from expert academics, including Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yasan, Dean of the Balıkesir University Faculty of Law, and Dr. Tuba Öncül Abacıgil, Director of the Balıkesir University Edremit Olive Growing Institute.
Our Institute Director, Dr. Tuba Öncül Abacıgil, expressed her pleasure in contributing to this training program, which is of strategic importance for strengthening democratic governance and increasing women's effectiveness in local decision-making mechanisms. She extended her thanks to the Mayor of Edremit, Mr. Mehmet Ertaş, for pioneering the project; to the Human Resources and Training Manager, Mr. Tamer Acar; to the Foreign Relations Unit Officer, Ms. Elisa Falcini; to all contributing academics, especially our Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yasan, who made significant efforts and contributions to the planning and implementation of the training process; and to the project team and participants.
